Contraflow coming to Hwy 130

HILO — The state Department of Transportation will reconfigure a stretch of Highway 130 to add a new northbound lane during morning rush hour on Monday, Aug. 26.

Shark attack closes Kealakekua Bay

Shark warning signs are being posted on both sides of Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park after a female swimmer was reportedly bitten by a shark this morning on the Napoopoo side of the bay in West Hawaii.

North Kohala Agricultural Water Study meeting Aug. 30

An upcoming informational meeting on the North Kohala Agricultural Water Study will be jointly hosted by the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) and Hawaii Island Sen. Lorraine Inouye. The meeting will take place from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Kohala Village Hub, 55-514 Hawi Road, in Hawi, North Kohala.

23 nabbed for DUI

Between Aug. 12 and Sunday, Hawaii Island police arrested 23 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

Bike and swim leads to arrest

Hawaii Island Police have arrested and charged a 29-year-old Hilo woman following a bizarre chase on a bicycle that ended in the apprehension in the waters at Coconut Island, police said in a news release.

BOE approves misconduct code revisions

HONOLULU — The Hawaii school board has voted to elevate the seriousness of high school bullying and harassment as disciplinary offenses, officials said.

Kapoho, Pohoiki areas still unsuitable for water restoration after lava
