Tour of Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary reveals oasis of life

KALOKO MAUKA — A few weeks ago while my Dad was visiting the island, we had the opportunity to take a private tour of the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary at the invitation of the owner, Norman Bezona, and his partner Voltaire. It was a serendipitous thing, actually. My dad loves animals so I took him by the Kona Humane Society for a quick fix. Inside, we ran into Voltaire, feral cat trap in hand, who insisted we come up for a visit. I’m so happy we did.

Sirens going up

The construction of an outdoor warning sirens begins Friday at Mohouli Park in Hilo. Hawaii County Civil Defense announced Thursday that outdoor warning sirens are scheduled to be constructed from Friday to June 28 in Malama, Mohouli and Ainako parks. Residents and business owners nearby can expect general construction noise and increased traffic during business hours while the sirens are put up.

KAILUA-KONA — Armed with trash bags, gloves and pickers, about two dozen volunteers took to the streets Friday morning in Kona, cleaning up trash others left behind.
