Here are the top stories as we head into the weekend…

Big Island native and rising star Brianna Wehilei Lim Ryder, known by her stage name Wehilei, is up for seven Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, including Single of the Year for “Kohala, HI.”

The Mauna Loa eruption at the end of 2022, destroyed the NOAA observatory’s gas measuring station. Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is eager to replace the station as soon as possible.

A 30-year-old man from Captain Cook was indicted by a Kona grand jury last week for a hit-and-run incident on May 13 on Highway 11, near the 110-mile marker and the Manago Hotel in South Kona.

A two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred on Wednesday night on Daniel K. Inouye Highway near the 9-mile marker in Hilo caused injuries to four people, including an 18-year-old female who was airlifted to an O’ahu hospital in critical condition.
