Good Friday morning, Big Island.

If you are driving in or near Waimea on Mamalahoa Highway (Highway 19) this morning, expect delays as portions of the highway are closed near Napa Auto Parts and between Waimea and Honoka’a.

The 2023 Hilo High School Homecoming Ho‘olaule‘a on Saturday will wrap up a week of festivities that looked back at the events that contributed to the school’s storied history. The community is invited to attend the event from 4 to 8 p.m. on the school’s campus on Waianuenue Avenue.

In case you missed it, a Hawai’i County law created in 1937 to regulate public dance houses and halls will likely will be cut loose after a committee of the County Council agreed it needs to be repealed.

Hawai‘i Island police are again renewing their request for the public’s assistance in locating 76-year-old William Romeo Bishop Sr., who was last seen Jan. 22 in the area of his home in Hawaiian Paradise Park, and Bishop’s family is offering a cash reward for information that could lead to finding him.

Portions of Highway 19 closed in and near Waimea

The Hawai‘i Police Department reports that Māmalahoa Highway (Highway 19) is closed in two locations near Waimea. The highway is closed near Napa Auto Parts in Waimea because of a downed utility pole and a portion of the roadway is also closed between Honoka‘a and Waimea because of a disabled fuel tanker.
