Aloha Wednesday!

The Hawai‘i County Council gave a favorable recommendation to a bill that would establish a new governmental agency to lead animal control services in the county. It will have its first reading before council on Feb. 21.

Hawai‘i Fire Department released video of a two-story home in East Hawai‘i engulfed in flames on Monday afternoon. The cause of the blaze is unknown and crews have been unable to enter the structure as it is unsafe.

Hawai‘i Police Department released body-worn camera footage of a shooting that resulted in a suspect being injured. While the cameras don’t show the shooting itself, it shows the aftermath of officers rendering first aid.

Police are also seeking help locating a California man wanted on an outstanding warrant.

And on Kaua‘i, farmers and fishers are suing the Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources arguing the state agency did not require an Environmental Impact Statement for a massive hydroelectric project, planned by Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative,
along the Waimea River.

Hawaiian word of the day is hana! Are you looking forward to pau hana on this hump day?
