Legislator wants ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi to be taught at every grade level across the state

House Bill 157 would require the teaching of ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi for public school students and appropriate $5 million dollars to create ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi curriculum and hire teachers to implement the program. The DOE currently offers ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi as a language course at 32 of its 64 high schools and Hawaiian language immersion is an option at 22 of its schools statewide.

Public documents filed by attorneys for chef Jason Ganzagan against defendant Lanai Resorts LLC allege that Ganzagan was fired after reporting safety and health law violations, as well as discrimination concerns, to Four Season’s resort manager and human resources division.
