Hawai’i firefighters responded to a structure fire around Hawī. No injuries were reported but the building was a total loss.

Did you notice that destroyer in Kailua Bay over the weekend? That’s the newly commissioned USS Daniel Inouye! Crew provided tours of the vessel and came aboard to dod service at the West Hawai’i Veterans Cemetery.

Also, don’t forget about the Color Run this weekend to support Breast cancer awareness month.

At about 8:55 a.m. on Monday, Hawaiʻi County Fire Department responded to a report of black smoke sighted on Old Coast Guard Road in North Kohala on the Big Island.

A multi-use building on ranch land was fully involved with fire, according to the fire department.

Hilo’s Pink Out Color Run this weekend to support Breast cancer awareness

The American Cancer Society’s fifth annual 5K Pink Out Color run is coming up this Saturday.

In partnership with Pacific Media Group’s KBIG-FM, the race will take place in Hilo at the Civic/Ho’olulu Complex. Registration is at 7 a.m. and the run starts at 8 a.m. Cost to register for the event is $35.

The crew of the USS Daniel Inouye visited the Big Island over the weekend, giving the public a chance to tour one of the military’s newest destroyers.

For many, the 509-foot vessel was a strange site just outside of Kailua Bay. A warship has not anchored off the Kona coast in over a decade.

Kona Community Aquatic Center to close for facility upgrades

The Kona Community Aquatic Center near Old Kona Airport Park will temporarily close for a large facility upgrade project.

According to Hawai‘i County officials, the pool is set to close on Friday and is anticipated to reopen in about two weeks, barring unforeseen delays. The volunteer project includes repairs and improvements to the pool deck and will involve significant concrete work.
