Planning commission OKs zoning time extension bill

The Leeward Planning Commission on Thursday agreed with a bill requiring County Council authorization of time extensions to zoning ordinances, a measure that would replace the current practice of administrative time extensions approved by the Planning Department.

New fire code on hold

A bill updating the county fire code was temporarily set aside Wednesday to allow officials time to figure out a way to make an important component of the code compatible with the county’s online EPIC building permit system.

Water main break impacts water service in Puako

Customers along Puako Beach Drive will experience no or intermittent water service while Hawaii County Department of Water Supply crews work to repair two water main breaks. Repairs are underway and estimated to be completed within 6 to 8 hours.
