Puna man sentenced to 10 years for wild crime spree

A Puna man was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison for a wild spree almost 2½ years ago that included an assault with a metal pipe or rebar and a victim who said he was purposely hit by a vehicle carjacked by the assailant.

EPA fines county over ongoing Ka‘u sewage issues

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said Wednesday it has fined Hawaii County $28,500 for missing a deadline to submit a complete design of a wastewater treatment facility in Pahala under a 2017 consent order requiring the county to replace decades-old gang cesspools in Pahala and Naalehu.

Police arrest 27 for DUI

During the week of Nov. 1-7, Hawaii Island police arrested 27 motorists for DUI. Twelve of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None were younger than 21.
