Youth step up for vaccinations

Jaysha Anderson-Kaili last week brought her three oldest daughters — Pika, 15, Alasha, 14, and Princess, 12 — to Hilo Medical Center’s vaccine clinic at the Arc of Hilo, where all four received their first dose of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine.

Robert Eric Aslund, 62, of Hilo died May 3 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Ruislip, England, he was a longtime member of Hale ‘Oluea Clubhouse for the disabled and his goal was to make everyone he came in contact with smile. No services. Survived by mother, Joan Cudeback of Hilo; stepfather, Ken Cudeback of Hilo; daughter, Jackie Ka‘iulani Aslund of Virginia; brothers, Jon (Rhonda) Cudeback and Eric (Kathy) Cudeback of Southern California; sisters, Cathy Pomaika‘i Anderson of Kawaihae and Donna Mililani (Milan) Marich of Ohio; cousins. Arrangements by Ballard Family Mortuary.

When will cruises return?

Several cruise lines announced their intentions last week to resume vacation cruises this summer to ports in Alaska, Florida or Texas — but it doesn’t appear Hawaii will be on any port of call itineraries anytime soon.

Jury returns guilty verdict in fatal hit-and-run

A 46-year-old South Kona woman faces up to 15 years behind bars after a jury found her guilty Wednesday of negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident involving death in connection with a July 2018 hit-and-run crash in South Kona that killed a 61-year-old visitor.
