Commission sees election success in all-mail balloting

Despite a 2020 general election when some Oahu polls closed almost four hours late and some Hilo voters spent three hours in line, the state Elections Commission is sending the Legislature a rosy review in its required biennial evaluation of the conduct of the election.

Preliminary hearing set for Hilo burglary suspect

A 34-year-old Hilo man facing numerous burglary and theft charges is accused of stealing groundskeeping tools valued at almost $6,000 from a storage room at Wong Stadium as well as more than $20,000 worth of items from lockers at a nearby commercial self-storage facility, according to court documents filed by police.

DHHL seeks beneficiary feedback on casino proposal

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands opened a public comment period for beneficiaries on a draft legislative proposal to authorize a resort and casino on Hawaiian Home lands designated for commercial use in Kapolei, Oahu.

Police arrest 20 for DUI

During the week of Jan. 11-17, Hawaii Island police arrested 20 motorists for DUI. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident. None were younger than of 21.
