Hirono takes issue with fake storm path

KAILUA-KONA — In the wake of a controversy surrounding President Donald Trump and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono drafted and signed a letter Wednesday with 13 other senators asking for answers from the Department of Commerce.

Abandoned vehicle program on a roll

HILO — The Hawaii County Council is fixing a glitch in a law that allows the county to haul abandoned vehicles from county property, but not state or federal property.

Police warn of phone spoofing scam

The Hawaii Police Department is warning island residents to be aware of a telephone spoofing incident in which scammers used a police station number to make a call.

15 arrested for DUI

During the week of Sept. 2-8, Hawaii Island Police arrested 15 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
