Judge tosses TMT lawsuit

HILO — A Hilo judge on Friday dismissed a lawsuit against the Thirty Meter Telescope that sought an injunction to block its construction because the project did not post a security bond.

Old A rollover sends three to hospital

KAILUA-KONA — Garrett Duran, Chris Revecho and Douglas Delmar were enjoying a Friday afternoon at Old Kona Airport Park when they heard screeching tires and saw an SUV flip multiple times on the old runway in front of the Makaeo Walking Path.


Even worse coral bleaching expected

KAILUA-KONA — Coral bleaching is already occurring in West Hawaii waters, and things are likely to get worse as Hawaii’s reefs enter a major bleaching event within the next two months — if not sooner.

Crowd packs court for 9 arrested during TMT protests

HILO — An overflow crowd of about 200 people packed a Hilo courtroom and an adjacent hallway as nine kupuna were arraigned this morning on charges they obstructed Maunakea Access Road on July 17 to prevent construction vehicles and workers from scaling Maunakea to build the Thirty Meter Telescope.

Settlement reached in cyclist death

KAILUA-KONA — A settlement appears to have been reached in a wrongful death case filed by the family of a cyclist fatally struck by an on-duty Hawaii Police Department officer in 2015.

Cop on Top continues through Saturday

KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii police department officers will be perched atop scaffolding at the Kailua-Kona Walmart until Saturday for the annual Cop on Top fundraiser for Special Olympics.

Truck bursts into flames on Palani Road

KAILUA-KONA — Deniz Tek was driving home with his wife Wednesday night, heading northbound on Palani Road around 10:15 p.m., when they came upon a single-vehicle wreck about a half mile south of Hina Lani Street.
