UH regents to discuss Maunakea group

The University of Hawaii Board of Regents are expected to hear a motion this morning to consider the formation of a group that would advise the board on issues related to the university’s governance of Maunakea.

KAILUA-KONA — Million-dollar bench warrants have been issued for two people indicted on murder, abuse and evidence tampering charges in the Halloween 2018 slaying of a 6-year-old boy at a Kealakehe apartment complex.

Shark-finning incidents raise concerns

Dramatic photographs of two oceanic whitetip sharks, lacking fins, along with photographs of a dead whitetip reef shark, are raising concern among marine biologists on Hawaii Island, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources said Wednesday.

Kaiulani Pomaikai Kinchoy, 11, of Waimea died July 21 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. She was a student at Waimea Elementary School and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Waimea Chapel. Service at 10 a.m. Survived by parents, Daryl Kinchoy and Misty Bell of Waimea; sister, Nevaeh Kinchoy of Waimea; grandfather, Sam Bell of Waimea, grandmother, Alice Barber of Hilo; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Arrangements by Cremation Services of West Hawaii.

Hilo man accused of double stabbing

A 39-year-old Hilo man is accused of stabbing two men Saturday night on the grounds of the Hilo Public Library.
