Astronomers: ‘We’re sort of dead in the water’

The protests surrounding the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope on Maunakea and the closure of the Maunakea Access Road affects not only the future of astronomy, but its present, as well, according to astronomers who use the telescopes already in place on the mountain.

Pepeekeo lane closure announced

Kaupakuea Homestead Road in Pepeekeo will be reduced to one lane of traffic on Monday and Tuesday, July 23, 2019, due to a soils investigation for the Makea Stream Bridge.

Police arrest 18 for DUI

During the week of July 8-14, Hawaii Island police arrested 18 motorists for DUI. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One was under the age of 21.
