Thirty Meter Telescope construction to begin Monday, Ige announces
“We have followed a 10-year process to get to this point, and the day for construction to begin has arrived,” Governor David Ige said in a press conference Wednesday. “At this time, our number one priority is everyone’s safety.” The National Guard will be on site to provide transportation to law enforcement and to bring supplies to help facilitate road closures. State says weapons won’t be used against protesters on Mauna Kea
The first effort to build the Thirty Meter Telescope in 2015 was met with mass protests that helped stall construction. This time the state plans to be much better prepared. “We have DOCARE that is participating, Public Safety is participating. We have the Department of Attorney General’s investigation division that’s participating,” said Attorney General Clare Connors. Hawaii News Now.

Company in fatal Mokulēʻia plane crash didn’t have permit for skydiving

Army drone crashes in Wai‘anae Range

Hilton workers ratify new union contracts
Unite Here Local 5 union members, who work at Hilton Hawaiian Village either as in-house employees or subcontractors with Hawaii Care & Cleaning, voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to ratify the new contracts, which will last four years, or until June 30, 2022.
