NHCH nurses reach tentative agreement with Queen’s
The not-yet-ratified agreement was reached July 1 between the Hawaii Nurses’ Association, OPEIU Local 50, which represents the North Hawai‘i nurses, and executives of The Queen’s Health Systems, parent company of North Hawaii Community Hospital, union president Daniel Ross, RN, said in a Thursday media release.
A counting of every person living in the country is mandated under the U.S. Constitution every 10 years. The primary purpose is to allocate seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, but the Census Bureau also collects highly detailed demographic data that is used by policymakers, business, and nonprofits.
During heavy rain, many residents think back to the weeks of unremitting storms in 2006, when a broken sewer pipe released 48 million gallons of raw sewage into the Ala Wai Canal and beaches around the island were closed. After eight years of work and regular reporting to the U.S. EPA, the city has met the requirement of rehabilitating its 2,100 miles of sanitary sewer pipes, said Lori M.K. Kahikina, director of the Department of Environmental Services.

The Honolulu Surf Film Festival begins Saturday
The month long film festival opens Saturday evening at the Honolulu Museum of Art’s Doris Duke Theatre. Big wave riding gets a spotlight in the festival opener, White Rhino, with director Brent Storm in attendance.
The eighth annual Mōʻiliʻili Summer Fest will have you feasting on street grinds and dancing the night away in the middle of Obon season. You’ll find games for the keiki, food trucks galore and pop-up shops from local businesses for the whole family.
