Hawaii Tourism Authority releases May visitor statistics
While State visitor arrivals and average trip durations increased, the $1.39 billion spending total was 2 percent less than it was in May 2018. O‘ahu was the only island that saw a slight increase in tourist spending, while the Big Island suffered the biggest spending percentage decline at 11.6.
A report released today takes a state agency to task for not being more accountable for decisions involving taxpayer money. According to the Hawai‘i State Auditor, the Land Division of the DLNR’s inability “to do anything other than continue business as usual” caused the agency to miss out on $1.6 million in potential revenue.
