HILO Overcrowded Hawaii Community Correctional Center is moving closer to expansion, with the publication Thursday of an anticipated finding of no significant environmental impact for a new building.

HILO The Hawaii Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have confirmed three unrelated cases of angiostrongyliasis, or rat lungworm disease, in visitors to Hawaii Island. All three individuals are adult residents of the U.S. mainland and were traveling in Hawaii when they were infected with the parasite causing rat lungworm disease.
The Kealakehe (Kona) Transfer Station Green Waste Site only was closed at 8 a.m. today. The green waste site should reopen as regularly scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
