The Big Island Auto Club held its Memorial Day Drag Races at the Hilo Drag Strip
on 18-19 May 2019.
Here are the results:
Saturday–Quick 9 Competition. Winner: Kiah Lee Taroma (Hilo) in a
Camaro (7.85 sec/170 mph). Runner up: David Francis (Paauilo) in a
camaro. David broke down after the second qualifying run and was
unable to compete in the final race.
Saturday–Mega Bracket Race. Winner: Bill Brown (Kurtistown) in a
Mustang (10.38 sec/128 mph). Runner up: Casey Francis (Honokaa) in a
Camaro (broke out of bracket with 11.13 sec/118 mph).
Saturday–Import Bracket. Winner: Philip Ines (Kamuela) in a Honda
(13.79 sec/98 mph). Runner up: Tyson Kaili (Kailua-Kona) in a Honda.
Tyson red lighted with a time of 14.70 scec/81 mph.
Saturday–Fastest car on the track: Derrick Morreira (Keaau) in a
digger (6.09 sec/223 mph).
Sunday–Mega Bracket Race. Winner: Casey Francis (Honokaa) in a
Camaro (11.29 sec/107 mph). Runner up: Alika Kamanu (Hilo) in a
Honda ( 10.74 sec/131 mph). Casey wins on a hole shot.
Sunday–Quick 9 Competition. Winner: The final race of the day was
rained out, so the top two finishers split the trophies and prize
money. Our winners included Erick Fu (Kailua-Kona) in his Digger and
Kiah Lee Taroma (Hilo) in her Camaro.
Sunday–Junior Dragsters Exhibition Races. Medals and prizes were
awarded to K.J. Kekaualua (Mt. View), Griffin Augustin (Hilo),
Maddison Parks (Hilo), and Shaun Kahaunaele (Hilo).
Next Big Island Auto Club Drag Race is set for 22-23 June 2019 at the
Hilo Drag Strip.
