Incident: High Surf Warning for North and West Facing Shores for Hawaii Island
This is a Civil Defense message.
This is a High Surf message for Friday January 11 at 3:30 in the afternoon.
The National Weather Service has forecast a large Northwest swell to impact the State of Hawaii including Hawaii island for the area from Upolu Point to South Point. The National Weather Service will be issuing High Surf Warnings and Advisories as the swell approaches closer to the islands. A High Surf Warning means there is a threat to life and property from the surf.
Surf is forecast to build up through Saturday along Northwest shores and peak Saturday evening through Sunday. The highest threat for coastal impacts will coincide with the high tide, which occurs at 8 AM Sunday.
Due to the projected High Surf Warning, the following are in effect:
- Oceanfront residents and beachgoers along the affected shores are advised to be on the alert for high and dangerous surf.
- Boat owners and oceanfront residents should take action to secure their property.
- Closures of roads and beaches may occur without notice.
This message will be updated and you will be informed of any conditions that may affect your safety. Thank you for listening. Have a safe weekend, this is your Hawai’i County Civil Defense Agency.
