Embattled Big Island dairy farm plans to cease operations, lay off employees
Big Island Dairy in Ookala will lay off 24 employees. The farm has faced years of litigation from the community over environmental concerns. Last year, the dairy was slapped with a hefty state fine for discharging wastewater into local water supplies. Hotel occupancy rates decline
The Hawaii Tourism Authority said Tuesday that hotels statewide had a drop in occupancy last month, the fifth month in a row of declines. Occupancy fell to 76.4 percent, a drop of 2.4 percentage points from October 2017. Star-Advertiser. KHON2.
