HILO — After more than three months of closure, the mandatory evacuation zone covering much of Leilani Estates has been lifted for residents.

Mandatory evacuation in Leilani Estates lifted

Mayor Harry Kim is lifting the mandatory evacuation order for Leilani Estates, effective 9 a.m. Saturday. The area east of Pomaikai Street had been closed since May 31 due to lava flows and volcanic gas from the Kilauea Lower East Rift Zone eruption.
