Court documents allege violent carjacking

A 77-year-old Kalapana Seaview Estates man told police the boyfriend of one of his tenants reached inside the man’s car through the open front passenger window and, meat cleaver in hand, ordered him to stop the slow-moving vehicle, according to court documents filed by police.

New schedule for community lava meetings

Community meetings on the status of Kilauea’s lower East Rift Zone eruption will now be held every other week at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Pahoa High School cafeteria, starting Sept. 5, the county said Monday.

Police investigating weekend assault

Police are investigating an assault they say occurred Sunday evening in the Keaukaha area of Hilo on Kalanianaole Avenue along the seawall near the entrance to Four Mile beach park.
