Mayor Kim wants quick work with Lane damage assessments
Mayor Harry Kim told department heads and emergency workers Monday he intends preliminary assessment of the damage done by former Hurricane Lane to be completed expeditiously. The goal is to ascertain whether damage done by the storm is sufficient to meet federal guidelines for monetary assistance to the county and to homeowners who suffered damage. Tribune-Herald.

Maunakea Visitor Information Station to be closed Sundays
The Maunakea Visitor Information Station was closed Sunday and will be closed on Sundays for the foreseeable future as skyrocketing visitor rates overwhelm the facility. With Hawaii Volcanoes National Park closed, other tourist destinations on the island have taken on a significant increase in visitors. Tribune-Herald.

Woman charged with felony after trying to remove child from school
Kona patrol officers responded to a report of an unknown woman attempting to take children away from Kealakehe Elementary School in Kailua-Kona, while school was in session. It was reported that while the woman was attempting to physically remove a child from a classroom, a staff member intervened. West Hawaii Today.
