Email message from the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency.
Part of the Hilo Bayfront was opened Sunday morning. Here’s the update from the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency:
This is a Civil Defense road closure update for Sunday, August 26 at 10:30 in the morning.
The Hawaii Police Department reports that Highway 19 along Bayfront (Bayfront Highway) is now open. Kamehameha Avenue, from Ponahawai to the Ironworks Building remains closed. Bayfront Canoe Landing and Park also remains closed.
Thank you and please be safe. This is your Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency.”
Highway maintenance personnel are still removing debris and flood waters from the Hamakua Coast Highway (Highway 19). Traffic is moving slowly on Sunday afternoon, with drivers mindful of traffic cones and potholes in the road. Damage will take some time to fix. For current road conditions, please visit http://www.hawaiicounty.gov/2018-hurricane-map. Although Tropical Storm Lane is moving to the west, we still could get some heavy rain and flooding.
