Not out of the Lane woods yet: Tropical Storm warning in effect for Hawaii County

KAILUA-KONA — Tropical storm conditions and hurricane conditions continue to be a possibility today and tonight as Hurricane Lane churns its way toward the islands. The category 3 storm is expected to pass close to the main islands today, still as a hurricane, bringing damaging winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Highway 19 closed at mile 13 due to landslide

KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii police department reports that Highway 19 at mile 13 is closed both lanes due to a landslide near Honomu. Department of Transportation estimates two hours for clearing to reopen. There are no detours in this area.

Brown water advisory issued for Hawaii Island

KAILUA-KONA — Hurricane Lane has resulted in stormwater runoff entering into coastal waters. The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and associated flood debris.
