This is not a good day to be on the roads and highways of Hawaii Island.  Key highways, roads, and streets are closed because of continuous flooding, landslides, and wind-blown debris.  Tom Callis lists the various road impacts wrought by Hurricane Lane as it slowly heads north to Oahu and Kauai.  As the storm pulls away from Hawaii Island, expect heavy showers, gusty winds, and frequent power outages.  If at all possible, please stay safe at home.  Those living on Hilo’s Reed’s Island have been asked to leave their homes to avoid being cut off by raging streams and debris.
