No public or charter school classes on Wednesday due to Hurricane Lane, 21 August 2018

The Hawaii State Department of Education has cancelled all public and charter school classes and closed Hawaii Department of Education offices on Hawaii Island and Maui, effective Wednesday “until further notice” because Hurricane Lane.  The storm is expected to pass very close to Hawaii Island and threaten Maui, Oahu, and Kauai with heavy rain and flooding.  Hawaii Island, especially West Hawaii, could experience hurricane force winds and possible heavy property damage.  As of now, most of the state is within the “cone of coverage” and subject to severe weather.

The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency will issue frequent updates via local broadcast stations and social media.
