Obituaries for August 1

Louise Byron Isherwood, 78, of Hilo died July 20 at home. Born in Milton, La., she was a retired public school English teacher, member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 7) at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Aloha or business attire; no flowers. Memorial donations to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Lyman Museum or charity of choice. Survived by husband, Myron Isherwood Jr. of Hilo; daughters, Pamela (George) Kruse of Kalaheo, Kauai, Kathleen (Glenn Ohashi) Isherwood of Hilo, Gaylen “Lani” (Ernie Costa Jr.) Isherwood of Waikele, Oahu, Gwendolyn (Pao-Chi Hwang) Isherwood of Honolulu and Francene (Ken) Depew of Ewa Beach, Oahu; brothers, Patrick Byron of Mississippi and John (Belle) Byron of Texas; sister, Mary (James) Eubank of Louisiana; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Tourism slumps in June

WASHINGTON — When North Korea handed over 55 boxes of bones that it said are remains of American war dead, it provided a single military dog tag but no other information that could help U.S. forensics experts determine their individual identities, a U.S. defense official said Tuesday.
