Hawaii police are looking for 33-year-old Joshua Waiki, who reportedly shot and killed police officer Bronson Kaliloa at a traffic top Tuesday evening on Highway 11 in Mountain View.  Here is the sequence of events as given by the “Hawaii Tribune-Herald”:

“Police say that as officers approached, Waiki got out of the front seat and fired multiple shots from what is believed to be a handgun, striking Officer Bronson K. Kaliloa in the neck and leg. Other officers returned fire, but Waiki was able to flee into the brush on foot, police said.

Highway 11 was closed down, while police searched for Waiki and processed the scene for evidence.

Kaliloa was taken by ambulance to the Hilo Medical Center, where he underwent surgery, but was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m. this morning.

Kaliloa, a 10-year veteran of the Hawaii Police Department leaves behind a wife and three small children.

Waiki, who is sought by police, is described as 5-foot-11-inches tall and about 145 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and dark jacket.”
