Scientist killed, entertainer injured in crash

HILO — A two-vehicle head-on collision late Tuesday afternoon on Daniel K. Inouye Highway, also known as Saddle Road, has killed a highly regarded scientist and critically injured a well-known local musician.

Kim: Don’t bar building in lava zones

HILO — Because so much of Hawaii Island geography is designated as lava zones 1 and 2, it doesn’t make sense to bar construction there, Mayor Harry Kim said Tuesday.
