Kim: Don’t bar building in lava zones

HILO — Because so much of Hawaii Island geography is designated as lava zones 1 and 2, it doesn’t make sense to bar construction there, Mayor Harry Kim said Tuesday.

Eruption continues as lava claims 2 more houses

KAILUA-KONA — Fissure 8 continues to erupt lava steadily into the perched channel leading northeastward from the vent to the Puna coastline, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported Tuesday morning.
