Puna councilwoman Jennifer Ruggles has put politics on hold and has formally withdrawn her candidacy for re-election to the District 5 County Council seat.  Hawaii County Clerk Stewart Maeda said Ruggles will remain on the primary election ballot because she “withdrew after the deadline.”

Ruggles didn’t disclose her reason for dropping out of the race, saying she would work hard during the upcoming months.  Ruggles told reporter Nancy Cook Lauer she has a lot to do in the remaining time she has in office :

”My work is not finished, and will not be finished when I leave office … I will continue to focus on our district, fight regressive tax increases, to stand up for our disadvantaged populations and protect our natural resources.”

New comers Frederic Ric Wirick and Matt Kanealii-Kleinfelder remain in the race for the District 5 Council Seat.
