Hawaii County fire fighters went door-to-door Sunday night to evacuate residents ahead of a fast-moving lava flow which claimed at least 10 homes in the Leilani Estates subdivision. Hawaii County spokeswoman Janet Snyder said many structures have fallen to the lava flows, “unofficial count has the total of structures destroyed at 92, 51 of them houses.”
Residents were asked to leave from Nohea and Luana Streets between Leilani Avenue and Kahukai Street. Lava also covered PGV production wells KS-5 and KS-6.
The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency issues frequent eruption and lava flow updates on Hawaii Island radio stations and through the social media. Please have an emergency survival kit packed in your vehicle should you be asked to evacuate.
