Steadily advancing lava flows will soon close off an access point on Highway 132 in Lower Puna.  Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency administrator Talmadge Magno says another lava flow has crossed Pohoiki Road, “putting Highway 132 in jeopardy.”

Lava has also flowed deeper into Puna Geothermal Venture property, but hasn’t reached any wells.  Magno describes the current situation for reporter Tom Callis:

We’re pretty confident they are safe,” he said regarding the geothermal wells, all but one of which have been quenched.

“If it went onto the wells I’d think we’d be fine. It’s going to possibly hit PGV property but the wells are in a different direction.”

Lava has already crossed Highway 137, making much of the road impassible.  The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency issues daily eruption and lava flow updates over Hawaii Island radio stations and through the social media.
