According to Hawaii County officials, 82 structures, including homes, have been destroyed by lava flows impacting Lower Puna. “Hawaii Tribune-Herald” reporter Michael Brestovansky says the damage is extensive and covers approximately 2,200 acres of forest and farms:
“The updated total includes homes and other structures, including unpermitted buildings, and is a significant increase from the estimated 50 destroyed structures reported yesterday. However, the previous estimate was hindered by poor visibility and other factors.”
The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency issues eruption and lava flow updates throughout the day over Hawaii Island radio stations and through the social media.
