Living in lava limbo

VOLCANO — As Hawaii Volcanoes National Park closed Friday in anticipation of possible violent explosions at the summit of Kilauea, residents of nearby Volcano village remained largely unconcerned.

12-pack trouble

The owner of a burglarized home in Leilani Estates subdivision realized someone was on his property — which had been evacuated due to lava from Kilauea volcano — when he found a 12-pack of Bud Light beer behind his house when he returned to check on the place.

Commercial center pegged for NELHA

KAILUA-KONA — A proposal from a local company to build a commercial center at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority would give local drivers a new spot to fill up the tank and support NELHA’s mission of sustainability.

Escapee indicted

HONOLULU – Randall T. Saito was indicted by a Honolulu grand jury on one count of escape in the second degree and four counts of identity theft in the first degree, Attorney General Russell A. Suzuki said in a press release Thursday.
