Kilauea crater explosion creates large ash plume

HILO — Hawaiian Volcano Observatory confirms there was a large explosion around 8:30 a.m. in the “overlook crater” within Halema‘umaʻu at the summit of Kilauea volcano, creating an enormous plum of ash.

New police rigs to roll soon

KAILUA-KONA — The Hawaii Police Department is awaiting delivery of 10 new marked police SUVs, the first addition to the department’s fleet in nearly a decade.
