HILO — A critical audit of the county Human Resources Department has netted a national award for Legislative Auditor Bonnie Nims and her staff.

Botched missile alert prompts advice on alert drills

HONOLULU — The missile alert mistakenly sent to the public in January prompted the Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday to recommend that government workers avoid using the phrase “this is not a drill” during practice sending emergency notices.

Investigation points to policeman as shooter

Hawaii Island police confirmed the female and male found dead at a home in Mountain View on Sunday, as 54-year-old Jolene-Rae K. Kapua-Allison and 50-year-old Christopher R. Kapua-Allison, a police officer with the Hawaii Police Department.
