According to Hawaii News Now, approximately 18 inmates at the Oahu Community Correctional Center attacked three Adult Corrections Officer Saturday evening (30 September 2017) as the guard were escorted a prisoner group back to their module.  The injured guards suffered head and facial injuries, necessitating a trip to a local hospital.  All three guards were listed in serious condition.

A veteran OCCC Sergeant who asked to remain anonymous out of concern for his safety said “I’ve been involved now with the department for a while and I feel like it’s really gone down and the safety is being more and more jeopardized,”

OCCC was designed to house 629 inmates, but now, the facility cares for over 1,100 inmates.  Overcrowding, safety issues, and staff shortages continue at OCCC.
