Here’s the latest update on Tropical Storm Darby, as of 5 a.m. Friday, 22 July 2016.  Heavy rains, strong winds, and flooding are expected to begin in east Hawaii as soon as tonight, as Darby continues to move toward Hawaii Island.  Heavy rain and high surf between 10 and 17 feet could impact east Hawaii through Sunday.

A list of evacuation centers is provided in this report from the “Honolulu Star-Advertiser.”

Civil Defense officials are asking people to remove objects around their homes to lessen the damage from tropical storm winds.  Families should have emergency kits ready to go.  Be sure to fill your vehicle’s gas tanks and have enough supplies to last at least 3 days.  Tropical Storm Darby is not expected to weaken significantly before it encounters Hawaii Island.

Be sure to listen for civil defense updates on the radio, television, online, and through the social media.
