The former director of alumni and student programs at the Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA) in Waimea has been fired for having what has been called “an inappropriate relationship” with an Upper School student. After the school began an investigation, it notified the Hawaii Department of Human Services, which began its own inquiry of the relationship between Arati Clarry and the unidentified HPA student. In a letter to parents, HPA officials said “Ms. Clarry is no longer employed at our school and she is not permitted to be on our campuses.” Students who may have been counseled by Ms. Clarry will receive special attention to see if child abuse has been committed.
