arHawaii’s embrace of solar power should be nothing but good news. But something troubling has been happening to would-be PV customers in recent years.
Solar power has been a mixed blessing for Hawaii. On one hand, it’s an integral part of the state’s "clean energy" target of 2040. And, on the other hand, rooftop solar is facing opposition from those who claim PV systems will overload the electric grid. So, solar power permits have slowed while HECO figures out how to integrate the growing number of PV systems into its system without overloading the network. Until this problem is resolved, rooftop solar installations will proceed with the utmost slowness. This is a real shame, since there is technology available that would mitigate the issue. Aloha, Russ.
