The bill will be discussed today (Monday) by the Infrastructure and Environmental Management Committee. The bill would prohibit food establishments and vendors from using or selling polystyrene containers. Maui food providers could apply for a one-year exemption if they can “show no reasonable alternatives are available or if complying with the ban would cause significant hardship.” Aloha, Russ.
Man, that plate lunch looks ono!! Maybe people should just carry a civilian version of a “mess kit” along with them. If the plastic foam containers go, then paper seems to be the next viable source, but it doesn’t hold up so well sometimes (I remember the old days) and there is still the environmentalist issue of killing trees, even if a large part was recycled paper. We now carry our own grocery bags, why not our own eating kit? When are they going to start charging more for the plastic water bottles? We should probably be carrying or own water containers as well. Hmmm….sounds a little like the monks in Tibet….Maybe we can get into the mess kit market, Russ and make a few bucks….
I knew my Air Force survival training would come in handy. The “mess kit” idea sounds good. I carry a spare kit in my van. I’ve used it for picnics, radio station remotes, and amateur radio field day exercises. You may have a marketable idea. Aloha, Russ.
