HONOLULU — A judge has thrown out a lawsuit that accused several churches in Hawaii of defrauding the government. The suit, Kahle v. New Hope International.
Judge Virginia Crandall has tossed out a lawsuit filed by atheists Mitchell Kahle and Holley Huber which claimed certain churces in Hawaii had illegally obtained discounts on the facilities they rent for church services and had, indirectly, defrauded the government of $5.6 million in taxes. Judge Crandal said there was insufficient evidence to prosecute the churches. She did, however, allow the atheists to appeal her decision on very narrow grounds. More court sessions are expected. Aloha, Russ.
