Genora Dancel and Ninia Baehr remember that day in December 1990 when they joined two other gay couples in applying for a marriage license. When that license was denied, the couples sued the state. The State Supreme Court ruled later that their personal rights may have been compromised. Baehr and Dancel said they were Hawaii’s test case for marriage equity. Although both eventually went their separate ways, they continue to push for marriage equity–Dancel in Hawaii and Baehr in Montana. Aloha, Russ.
