Spill places molasses maker in spotlight
Hawaii News Now
The massive molasses spill in Honolulu Harbor this week has placed a spotlight on a little know sector in Hawaii agriculture industry.
Informative article on one of Hawaii’s lesser known agricultural products. The molasses produced on Maui is used for rum and cattle feed. The technology in use has been around about 30 years without incident until the pipeline burst. There is no procedure for cleaning up the harbor spill, other than letting the gooey mess biodegrade. The Matson Pier involved in the accident has been closed until repairs are made. Aloha, Russ.
