Nice idea about reducing the rates, but they have to pay for the new equipment improvements while maintaining the old systems, which is not cheap…and then there will be the on-going costs associated with the maintenance/replacement/expansion for the new technology and the decommissioning of the old equipment. Rates only go one way – up.

    You could get your own solar cells to help supplement the generation of electricity and reduce the cost from the utility companies but those cost money as well. A decent longer term solution, perhaps but be sure to check out how long it will take to re-coup your expense before making the decision and see if it works for you.

    1. The only winners in this mess are the utility companies. The consumer is toast. It will take years for the consumer to recover the expense of solar assisted energy. Something,though, has to be done anyway. The window on cheap, Middle East oil is closing. Russ.
