Native Hawaiian Convention to meet in Honolulu

The nonprofit Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement is organizing the convention with the assistance of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the Native Hawaiian Roll Commission.
The 12th Annual Native Hawaiian Convention starts Tuesday at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu. The purpose of the meeting is to enhance Native Hawaiians’ relationship with the federal government. Some Native Hawaiians are hoping the convention leads to a formal recognition of Hawaiians as a distinct national group within the framework of the federal government.
